Accomplishments


Securing Our Borders

While in Congress, Dr. Sekula Gibbs visited the Texas/Mexico border with an official delegation to see first-hand what can be done to curb illegal immigration. Congresswoman Sekula Gibbs strongly supports increased funding for border patrols, a border fence, and is opposed to amnesty. She signed a congressional letter asking President Bush to pardon Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean and to release them from their imprisonment.

Cutting Taxes

In the Houston City Council, Shelley voted for and helped pass three property tax rollbacks saving taxpayers more than 12 million dollars. Shelley stongly supports replacing the current tax code with a straightforward and simple to understand Fair Tax based on consumption.

Saving Taxpayer's Money

Shelley returned nearly $50,000 to taxpayers from her city council budgets and nearly $20,000 from her U.S. House of Representatives budget during her two month term in office. By foregoing her Houston City Council pension, Shelley saved Houston’s taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars

Protecting Life

Dr. Sekula Gibbs is proud to be pro-life. In Congress, she co-sponsored HR 6099 - the Fetal Pain Bill which would require that doctors who perform abortions provide women with information on available anesthesia options for the baby before the procedure. Dr. Sekula Gibbs has an 100 percent rating from the National Right to Life.

Energy Independence

In Congress, Shelley voted for increased U.S. energy independence by supporting the opening of 8 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico for oil and gas exploration.

Putting Americans First

Congresswomen Sekula Gibbs was proud to nominate 35 students from CD 22 to U.S. Military Academies and at least 21 were accepted. Shelley and her staff worked with constituents on the vital and complicated issues surrounding their Social Security, Veteran's and Medicare benefits.
